The municipality of the Austrian city of Linz announced a competition for the reuse of a 120‑year‑old disused railway bridge. The Valyo design team created a community space from the elements of the bridge, and our submission received a special award.
Our team rotated the railway bridge by 90 degrees and placed it on the riverbank next to its current location. We sliced the plates and shifted them apart, so that from a distance the continuous bridge structure remained visible, but in the space—divided into many areas with different functions—they were displaced from one another.
