Ficcenések

Seating surfaces on the sloped embankment

On the lower embankment of Szent Gellért Square, the Nina and Valdemar Langlet embankment widens slightly beyond the guardrail; with the help of this “jut‑out,” we wanted to strengthen the connection between people and the river. We placed something there that would make it easier for people to use this part of the Danube riverbank. A podium, a little sitting spot detached from everything, far from the access points, in the immediate company of the busy lower embankment, therefore full of potential. At once a nook and a melancholy lookout, but what places it in a special Budapest situation is the Danube itself. Our goal was to create character, to place a gesture that turns the jut‑out into a place. A place where it might be worth being.

The 2015 Ficcenések formed the basis for the launch of the Valyo and BetonWS Kifolyó project, within which the development of the Danube riverbank at Gellért Square began, and the area increasingly came into use by local residents. This series of developments also forms the foundation of the Valyo Alsósétány concept.
