Within the framework of the DANUrB+ programme, we built a pontoon bridge out of canoes on the Ipoly river over the Slovak-Hungarian border together with students of the BME Department of Urban Studies.
In July 2021, a symbolic project reflecting on the situation during the Covid19 pandemic and the transformation of human relations was carried out on the Ipoly River: a 40-metre-long pontoon bridge was built by 45 participants between the Hungarian side of Ipolydamásd and the Slovakian village of Helemba. The canoes used as elements of the bridge were provided by the Slovak and Hungarian National Parks. The wood of the installation, which was used as a bridge for one day, was floated by catamaran to Szob, where it was used in the construction camp of the BME Department of Urban Studies to build permanent structures that are still visible today.
The bridge highlighted the importance of building a permanent link and was a symbolic representation of the long-planned permanent road bridge, construction of which began in the summer of 2021 between the two sides.
