Between May and October, after the test run in 2021, the Árasztó-part on the Danube bank in Albertfalva was waiting for visitors with a number of innovations. Just like in 2021, a year later we transformed the area into a recreational park with a small budget and small-scale interventions. During the second season of the Árasztó-part, the following facilities were offered on the Danube bank, which is about 25 minutes by bike from Fővám Square: sunbeds, barbecue and barbecue areas, a sand volleyball court, swings, bike storage, plants, a table and bench in the floodplain forest, and the first and completely unique compost toilet in Budapest!
The proximity of the Danube, the wild coastline, peace and quiet, which is the most important value of Árasztó-part. This year, too, visitors of all ages, old and new, came to the area: families and groups of friends barbecued, old and young couples sunbathed or walked, sportsmen and dog-walkers used the beach to recharge their batteries. The small flower gardens added a new colour to the environment, which was also tended by local people, many of whom watered the plants. School groups played sports here during PE lessons or excursions, but there were often little children playing in the sand. Refugees stationing in Hungary were also using the space, so information boards in Ukrainian, Russian and English were put up in the middle of the summer.
The opening of the 2022 Árasztó-part took place on 14 May, when 120 people in 60 boats rowed from Óbuda’s Roma Beach to Újbuda’s Árasztó-part. In addition, the opening ceremony included music by Vibee and a barbecue by Hokedli’s chefs.
The programme is part of the ALT.BP – Alternative Budapest project.
