Árasztó-part 2021

Placemaking, new place in Újbuda

We opened a previously completely abandoned space on the river bank in Albertfalva, on a fully experimental basis. Parallel to the cycle path running along the flood protection dike at the height of the lower quays, it is a several kilometre long deserted stretch of land used mainly by fishermen, runners and dog walkers.

A two-hundred-metre stretch has been converted into a recreational and leisure park with a small budget and small-scale interventions. The most important intervention was a ramp for cyclists and a stairway running down from the cycle path to allow easy access off the cycle path. We also installed sunbeds, barbecues, bike racks, picnic tables and two large public sitting pebbles.

The proximity of the Danube, the wild coastline, peace and quiet, are the most important assets of the Árasztó-part. The furniture was immediately used by the local residents. At the end of the short season, a survey was carried out to see how the area could be improved after the short test period, which was followed up the following season with the installation of more shades and a compost toilet.
